European boxing champion Hovhannes Bachkov is extremely happy and proud for being able to win European Championship gold for Armenia after 7 years off.

“I have been striving for medals since I started my career. Due to various circumstances, I used to miss victories at the last moment in large competitions, but this time was different. I had prepared very well and was in perfect shape, while the referees were fair. As a result, I became European champion, which had been one of my goals,” the boxer told journalists.

Bachkov extended his thanks for the victory to all those, who worked with him, helping prepare for tournaments. “I would especially like to thank the Armenian community of Kharkiv for being there for us and supporting us throughout the competition. We felt at home there.”

The athlete remarked that he aimed to perform successfully in the upcoming World Championship, which will take place on August 25-September 3, Hamburg. “I always knew that I needed to succeed either in European or World Championship first and then only start competing in professional boxing. I would never leave the amateur boxing without a medal, as that would mean all those years of hard work were all in vain. Of course, I intend to start a career on professional ring, but that will happen after the World Championship.”
