The Armenian national weightlifting team might be allowed to compete in the 2018 European Championships.

Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs of Armenia Hrachya Rostomyan made that statement today.

“It was announced earlier that Armenia is banned for one year. However, it is possible that the mentioned period will be reduced and our athletes will be able to compete in the European Championship in 2018. The change is probable because only three Armenian weightlifters tested positive for doping in their Beijing and London Olympics samples. Moreover, not a single Armenian athlete committed a doping violation since 2013,” Rostomyan told the press today.

He noted that this issue will receive a definite resolution until the end of the year. Armenia was banned from international tournaments along with nine other countries, and the Armenian team had to miss the World Championship.

The three athletes who tested positive were Tigran Gevorg Martirosyan, Norayr Vardanyan, and Hripsime Khurshudyan.
