Armenian men’s weightlifting team is currently in Abovyan city, preparing for the European Championship that’ll take place on April 2-9 in Split, Croatia.

Manager of the team Pashik Alaverdyan told Mediamax Sport that 6 Armenian athletes will perform in the championship.

That will be the first competition after a long break for European champion Andranik Karapetyan, who got injured in the Olympic Games, and the first time he competes in the 85kg weight category.

“Andranik is in a good shape, so that will be useful for him. I want him to be in good mental state too and overcome the fear after a serious injury so that he’ll be able to lift big weights in World championship,” the manager said.

Other members of the team are silver medalist of Junior European Championship Varuzh Ghukasyan (94kg), silver medalist of Olympic Games Simon Martirosyan and European champion among juniors Samvel Gasparyan (105kg), as well as Olympic silver winner Gor Minasyan and silver medalist of European Championship Ruben Aleksanyan (+105kg).
