Edgar Stepanyan has already achieved his second success this year in cycle racing. The bronze medalist at 2014 World Youth Championships first became a European champion in July and then won the silver medal at the Youth Championships in Astana in 25 km group cycling.

Stepanyan told Mediamax Sport correspondent that the competition was quite tough in the final since everybody wanted to win.

“I was not an exception. When the Japanese bicycle racer and I came to be ahead of the rest by one cycle, I realized that I could bid for a medal. Eventually, the Japanese racer won the gold and I won the silver,” noted Edgar.

Unlike the European Championship at which each country was represented by two athletes, the World Championship granted only one racer the right to participate. According to Stepanyan, being a European champion he did his best in Astana not to return empty-handed from there, especially when he was in good form.

“Head coach for the team Armen Gyozalyan has helped me greatly. It’s owing to our work of many years that I managed to attain such success. Our engineer Arsen Boryan, team masseur Artur Ghazaryan and my teammate Pavel Stepanyan were there with me in Astana. On the whole, many people have helped me,” he added.

Stepanyan said he felt greatly honored to make Armenia known in cycle racing and to raise the Armenian Tricolor on international scene.

“This is my last time in youth tournaments. Starting from 2016 I will be participating in competitions among U23 and adults,” he said.
