In One Shot: Roman Amoyan’s Olympic broze

Greco-Roman wrestler, European champion, bronze medalist of World Championship and the Olympic Games, Roman Amoyan retired from professional sport a year ago. However, his wrestling matches remain among the most beautiful and his achievements are as valuable as ever.

Our first edition of the In One Shot series in 2018 tells about Amoyan’s Olympic bronze.

Armenia won four bronze and one silver medal in the Olympic Games in Beijing, 2008. Roman Amoyan opened the medal score on August 12.

The wrestler put in hard work and wrestled for a win in every match, and eventually he was up for competition for the third place in 55kg category. His opponent was Yagnier Hernandez (Cuba), whom Amoyan beat 8-0. That victory became an unforgettable moment for all Armenian sport lovers.

“I have had a wonderful career and unbelievable achievements. All medals I won are special for me, although the Beijing Olympic bronze holds a particular meaning. I worked very hard for a long time to get onto the Olympic podium. I am happy I managed to win many medals for our country and bring Armenia recognition in the world,” said Amoyan, recalling his victories years later.
