On 20 June 2012, Yerevan hosted a football match dedicated to Eduard Markarov’s 70th birthday.
We cover that beautiful event in this issue of In One Shot series.
The footballer’s family, former teammates and numerous fans gathered at Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium.
The veterans of Armenian and Russian football held a game that ended 7:7. Markarov scored the second goal for Armenia.
Other players of that day were Alyosha Abrahamyan, Hovhannes Zanazanyan, Norayr Mesropyan, Arkady Andriasyan, Nikolay Ghazaryan, Valery Novikov, Sergey Gorlukovich, Yuri Kovtun, Fyodor Cherenkov and other famous USSR footballers.
“Such events should take place more often, so that people don’t forget the veterans,” Markarov commented.
