Katerina Zohnova: “I was ambitious, passionate and crazy for sport”

“Mediamax Sport” continues “Sports Beauty of the Week” series.

Katerina Zohnova plays in Czech Republic women's national basketball team, within which she took part in London Olympic Games. 29-year-old Zohnova is 179sm tall. A number of prestigious websites have named her one of the most beautiful female athletes in the world.



-Katerina, why did you decide to become a basketball player?

-Well...... I am not sure I can say I momentarily realized I should be a basketball player or I have a talent for this kind of sport ... I started as a small kid in my little city. I was ambitious, passionate and crazy for sport and with time and step by step I became a professional athlete. Today I am happy as I can say I achieved something in my sport career...

-Do you agree that basketball is a male sport?

-I like competing like a man on the court and at the same, time looking in a completely different way....

-People look for inspiration to do something. Do you do so too?

-Yes. In general, people who know what they want do their best to achieve it without complaining why it is not possible...  It’s what inspires me in my daily life – to see people who started at "zero" and made their dreams come true.... I think what people can do is simply amazing...



-If you had a chance to play basketball with one athlete for an hour long, who would that athlete be?

-I never thought about it, but why not, with Michael Jordan. :-)

-Which is your target in life?

-I am a person who does not make plans. I take what each day brings to me...... But there is one thing I used to dream about and wanted to achieve – to participate in Olympic Games. I think all professional athletes dream about it. I never thought it would ever become a reality and it was an amazing experience for me. :)

-As of today, which is the top thing in your life?

-It has always been basketball for me. As time passes, several things change but I love what I am doing and I still want to continue playing the best I can.



-How would you describe Katerina out of sport?

-Basket is a big part in my life, so when the seasons finish I am trying to spend time with my family and friends, because I am not seeing them during the year. I like hanging out with my friends, going to the cinema, good restaurants as well going for other sports and new activities to clear my mind from daily routine.

-What style do you prefer in general?

- I am an athlete, I like sport style in general but I also like to look sexy. So dresses and heels are not alien for me. :)

-What do you keep in your training bag?



-Usually clothes for changing, a theraband and my phone. If I want to get ready really quickly I just use mascara and I am ready. :)

-If you turn on your iPod right now, what music/song will it be playing?

 -Ordinary love by U2.

-You are often named one of the most beautiful Czech athletes. Which is your main beauty tip?

-I don’t have any special tips. I think it’s about lifestyle. And if u feel happy and good inside it will be visible also from outside. :) For beauty issues, I have to thank my parents. :)

-A girl, who likes simple things in life, who is opens to people and knows what she wants.

-Sport and personal life – do you think these two realities can be combined and a 100% happy life can be led?

-I don’t think it's easy. I have been always dealing with "distance thing". But in a life full of travels and matches abroad you always have to sacrifice some things and make choices.

-What do you know about Armenian sport?

-To be honest, I don't know a lot of things. It's a country, which is trying to develop in sport culture. The only Armenian athlete I have heard about is Borussia Dortmund’s footballer Henrikh Mkhitaryan.



-You have also taken part in various photo-shoots for different magazines. Is there anything you express through them?

-From time to time, it’s simply nice to have this opportunity and to look good when you are spending most of the time in the gym... It's another experience and fun.
