Head coach of the Armenia national boxing team Davit Torosyan said that 2017 was quite an efficient year with a number of achievements both in amateur and professional boxing.

Hovhannes Bachkov became European champion and won the bronze medal in the World Championship. Artur Hovhannisyan and Narek Manasyan took the 3rd place in U23 European Championship.

“Aram Avagyan, Narek Abgaryan and Gor Yeritsyan started their performance on professional ring from April this year. They had 17 pairings altogether and registered victories with great advantage in all of them. Currently they are making success on professional ring,” the Head Coach noted.

According to Torosyan, all of them aim at qualifying for the 2020 Olympic Games in Japan, so they are going to work in that direction from the coming year.

Nevertheless, the coach expressed his discontent over the situation in amateur boxing, which was evident especially after the Armenian Boxing Championship.

“The championship was rather weak, and there were many gaps. Becoming a champion in Armenia does not actually mean a lot. They are not competitive on international arena. Armenian boxers make easy targets for the competitors, while we would like to restore the old traditions,” Davit Torosyan said.
