Armenia boxing team earned two quotas for the World Championship in the European Championship.

The new European Champion Hovhannes Bachkov and Karen Tonakanyan, who reached the quarter finals, are the two athletes who will perform in the world competition on August 25 – September 3 in Hamburg.

“Quotas were for those boxers who reach 1/8 finals. Our federation will appeal to EUBC for a quota that Narek Manasyan should have received. He had a wonderful fight but lost because of wrong judgment by the referees. If we succeed there, Narek will take part in the World Championship too,” said the Armenia boxing team head coach Davit Torosyan.

He’s pleased with his team and believes it’s better to win one gold medal than many silver and bronze ones. According to him, the Armenian team got their job done.

Now the athletes have to prepare for the World Championship. Before that, they will organize two training camps.

“The schedule is bad. The World Championship comes just two months after the European competition, and athletes still need time to rest. I don’t just say it for the sake of our athletes, all boxers who took part in the European Championship face the challenge,” he added.

Other members of the Armenian team Narek Abgaryan, Aram Avagyan, and Gor Yeritsyan will prepare for professional fights in Sochi on August 4. Abgaryan and Avagyan will have 8-round fights, while Yeritsyan’s fight will contain 6 rounds.
