Stepan Sargsyan Cup took place this weekend in Vanadzor, Armenia. 100 wrestlers from 5 countries participated in the international tournament.

Head coach of Armenia freestyle wrestling team Habetnak Kurghinyan summed up the competition and talked about plans for the future.

“Almost all our athletes took part in the tournament, only those with injuries missed it. The wrestlers are preparing for a new stage after the World Championship and I’m mostly pleased with their performance. We have Armenian Championship in the end of the year. There will be new weight categories and regulations. The old regulations won’t be used anymore,” said the coach.

He noted that his team still has a lot to work on and errors to fix.

Garik Barseghyan (57kg), Ghazar Hambardzumyan (61kg) and Levan Berianidze (125kg) won gold medals for Armenia in Stepan Sargsyan Cup.

Ashot Velitsyan (61kg), Volodya Frangulyan (65kg) and Varuzhan Kajoyan (74kg) became silver medalists, while Grigor Sirekanyan (61kg) and Narek Sirunyan (65kg) took the bronze.
