On October 6-8 Vanadzor will once again host the free style wrestling tournaments, named after Stepan Sargsyan, silver medalist of the Olympic Games, European champion and winner of the World Cup.

Secretary General of Armenian Wrestling Federation Arayik Baghdadyan told Mediamax Sport that 7 countries have already confirmed their participation: Georgia, Ukraine, U.S., Iran, Guatemala, Bulgaria and Russia. The latter will be represented by several teams.

“This tournament will involve quite strong athletes. The number of participating countries will probably increase. The organizers anticipate 100 freestylers during the tournament. Armenia will be represented by 40 freestylers both from the national team and promising young athletes,” Baghdadyan said.

Currently the athletes have private trainings with their coaches. The Armenian freestylers will then prepare for U23 World Championship 2017 in November, Lithuania. Adults will hold training camps.
