Head coach of the Armenian Greco-Roman wrestling team Levon Julfalakyan acknowledged today that they had been training for Rio after London Olympic Games in 2012.

“During recent years our team finished all the competitions with medals. The path we passed taught us to train well for the Olympics and come home with prizes.  We all anticipated gold medals, but we have only one gold and one silver. In team score we lost only to Cuba and Russia, which is a great result. I am satisfied with the performance of our team,” Julfalakyan told at a meeting with journalists.

Armenia had an Olympic champion 20 years ago, when Armen Nazaryan became a gold medalist in Greco-Roman wrestling too.

“We are very proud of Artur Aleksanyan for being able to conquer the title of Olympic champion. I can say exactly the same thing about Mihran Harutyunyan. Today he is a silver medalist, but we all know that he lost his gold medal in the final because of biased refereeing,” the coach highlighted.

Armenian National Olympic Committee has already applied to the international court to dispute the results of Harutyunyan’s final performance. “This shows that we are not indifferent about the medals stolen from us. In my view, Head of the International Wrestling Federation, Serbian Nenad Lalovic has nothing to do with this. Every referee would favor the official and give Mihran’s victory to the Serbian athlete. Let’s see what’s next. ”
