Armenia freestyle wrestling team is in Kislovodsk now, engaged in a training camp until July 29.

The athletes are preparing for the World Championship in Paris, which will be held on August 21-26. The freestyle wrestlers are training with their Russian colleagues.

Head coach of the team Habetnak Kurghinyan told Mediamax Sport that he included 6 sportsmen in the camp: Garik Barseghan (57kg), Volodya Frangulyan(61 kg), Gegham Galstyan (65kg), Grigor Grigoryan (74 kg), Georgi Ketoev (97kg), and heavyweight Levan Berianidze (125kg).

The coach noted those were the athletes he intended to send to the World Championship, with the exception of Galstyan, who’s still young and needs to gain experience. Another missing face will be Narek Sirunyan, who’ll leave the 65kg category unoccupied for Armenia in Paris due to an injury.

“Galstyan is a promising wrestler. I took him to the camp so he can work with senior athletes. He’ll have a chance to show his abilities at the U23 World Championship this year. I want to include more youngsters in the training camps, as our main goal is to prepare for the 2020 Olympics,” Kurghinyan said.

Armenian athletes will hold their last training before the World Championship in the Olympic Sports Complex in Armenia.
