A racetrack meeting international standards will be built in Hrazdan Stadium in Yerevan.

President of Armenian Athletics Federation Robert Emmiyan told Mediamax Sport correspondent that the works will be launched once all relevant contracts are signed.
Just a month after the contracts are signed, Armenian athletes will have a chance to train on a modern racetrack.

“Italian experts will be engaged in the works. They are real experts and the works will complete within a short period of time. Hrazdan Stadium meets all requirements of International Athletics Federation; all necessary landing pits and running tracks are available there”, Emmiyan said.

The racetrack will be installed by “Mondo Sport & Flooring Division” company, which builds athletics racetracks during European and World Championship and Olympic Games. The experts of this company have already twice been to Yerevan, have studied the terrain and performed all measurements.

“International Athletics Federation will allot USD 160 000. I have been struggling for four years so that this amount is not transferred to another country. In its turn, our government will allocate around USD 220 000. In reality, the overall cost of these works is EUR 1 mln but because I have good connections, we will pay way less”, Emmiyan added.

He is sure if at least one stadium in Armenia meets relevant standards, athletics will progress and such racetracks will be built in other stadiums as well. Besides, the racetrack will provide an opportunity to hold major international tournaments and championships in Armenia.
