World champion Tigran Petrosyan was born in 1929 in Tbilisi. This edition of In One Shot series tells about the first photo of Tigran Petrosyan, which depicts his family.
On that first photo of Tigran, he is sitting in his mother’s lap. The little girl beside them is his sister Vardush. Brother Hmayak is standing next to the father.
Tigran Petrosyan’s father Vardan worked as a janitor at the Officers’ House in Tbilisi. Tigran’s parents passed away early, so the responsibility to raise him was taken by his sister. Tigran began working along with attending school. He cleaned the neighboring streets and it was at that time that he grew fond of chess.
Years later the world champion told that the roots of his success came from difficult childhood, when he realized that you always have to fight in life.
