The qualifying stage of Euro 2012 ended for the Armenia team with the game against Ireland.

All Armenian football fans remember the match, because in that year our country had the chance to get to the final stage.

Roman Berezovsky’s look after the infamous red card was caught by sport journalists, and today we present it in our In One Shot series.

It seemed like the Armenia team’s wonderful season will lead to the Euro 2012 final stage. That was the general feeling among our players as they came out on the pitch. However, everything changed in the first half.

Spanish referee Iturralde Gonzales gave a red card Roman Berezovsky in an easy state of mind. Our most reliable player who saved the team for many times tried to convince the referee there was no breach of rules. He was joined by other players, but Gonzales already made the decision. According to him, Berezovsky handled the ball outside of penalty area.

Our team lost 1:2, but Armenians still remembers that game and season.

Months later Berezovsky commented on the ill-fated Armenia-Ireland game: “I am happy that football experts and fans remember our best game. Of course, it hurt, because we could have achieved more. Unfortunately, that chance was taken from us.”
