Within in one shot series Mediamax Sport introduces today the well-known picture of The Beatles and Muhammad Ali.

It is a great pleasure to see world-renowned stars in one picture. Moreover, when the picture has an interesting prehistory, it definitely appears at the center of our attention.

This picture was taken during the first international concert tour, organized by this quartet from Liverpool. The group made an 11-day tour in USA, during which they met 22-year-old Cassius Clay (he was later known as Muhammad Ali) on February 18, 1964

Ali was training for his battle against Sonny Liston. The Beatles actually planned to meet Liston in Miami, not “that loudmouth, who was going to lose,” John Lennon said.

Nevertheless, Liston was not interested in that meeting at all. “I am not going to take pictures with those sissies! Their music is also no good, my dog can play drums better, that the big-nosed guy from their group”.

That is why the quartet decided to meet with the evident outsider. When Ali saw the musicians at the hall, he said: “Hello the Beatles! We need to organize a show together, we will definitely make a lot of money”.

As a result Ali pretended to be punching George Harrison in the face. Standing beside him, young people from the Beatles were all knocked out, while Ali had only to stand near them with his head up.

That was only an advertising trick, which then turned out to be working.

Exactly then Ali said Lennon: “You are not as dumb as you look!”, one of his most popular expressions, which was followed by Lennon’s honest response: “But you actually are”.
